Jenison is an unincorporated community in Georgetown Township, Ottawa County, just west of Grandville across the county line. It's mostly residential, with neighborhoods built from the 1960s onward.
Many Jenison homes have finished basements, and that's where most mold calls start: a sump pump that couldn't keep up, a leaking window well, or a basement that stays humid all summer with no dehumidifier running. Bathrooms without a working exhaust fan are the other common one.
Call (616) 226-9528A dehumidifier set to about 50% and emptied regularly does more to prevent basement mold than almost anything else. If mold is already growing, have it removed first, then keep the humidity down.
Common questions
Jenison is in Ottawa County. Do you still cover it?
Yes. We cover Jenison, Hudsonville and the rest of Georgetown Township, as well as Kent County.
My window well fills up with water in storms. Can that cause mold?
Yes. Water in a window well can leak around the window into the wall. A cover and a clear drain at the bottom of the well usually fix it.
What humidity should my basement be?
Under about 50% in summer. The EPA's recommended range for indoor humidity is 30 to 50%.
