Extra insulation keeps the attic colder, so any warm, moist air leaking up from the house condenses on the roof boards. Sealing air leaks and making sure vents are clear usually fixes it.
Our basement has old stone walls. Can it be kept dry?
Usually it can be made much drier with good gutters and grading, a dehumidifier, and sometimes interior drainage. The contractor can tell you what they see.
